  • Strategic Operations Team Member | Corporate Office (Full-time)

    Position: Strategic Operations Team Member

    Team Description and Goals

    The Strategic Operations Department is a team that supports Slingshot Operations in a variety of ways. This department works alongside different departments during their peak seasons of work, takes on various special projects that promote business health, as well as train and develop team members for growth opportunities. These opportunities include but are not limited to: specialized roles in our corporate office or managing one of our university campus stores across the country


    Your time on our team will not only include exposure to a wide variety of tasks and departments, but will also include outside training such as online courses. This could include but not limited to personal finance, basic SQL/programming, economics, financial reporting and budgeting, and management. 

    Duties


    Examples would include, but are not limited to:

    1. Work alongside other departments such as Course Materials Research Team, Procurement, Logistics, Print Hub, Customer Support, and Retail Operations throughout the year. 

    a. This means you will be doing the work alongside other employees in that department. For example, if you are assigned to Logistics for two weeks you will participate in their day-to-day tasks like pulling orders, shipping, and/or receiving books. 

    2. At times there will be initiatives and projects that Slingshot wishes to embark on. You will have the opportunity to assist in these initiatives in a variety of manners. These special projects will be assigned from the Director of Strategic Operations. 


    Expectations

    1. Work hours will vary depending on team and company needs. On average you will work 40 hours a week over a year-long period but the number of hours worked per week will vary between 30-50 hours/week. 

    2. Flexibility in tasks and humility in service. 

    3. Opportunity for advancement. 

    a. Our team will master the basic tasks of each department we deploy to. Advancement can be sought after with a functional knowledge of the intermediate and/or advanced tasks in a given department. 

    4. Remote work will be the exception rather than the norm for this role. You will be expected to be in the office most days.

    5. Embrace change.

    6. Travel opportunities will arise from time to time. 

    a. We may require up to 1 week (or 5 days) in a calendar year, but Team Members may volunteer up to 2 weeks (or 10 days) in a calendar year. 

    7. You will report to the Director of Strategic Operations, however you will perform the tasks assigned to you by the manager/director of the department you are deployed to. 


    Qualifications

    1. Proficiency in basic computer skills. 

    2. A willingness to learn new skills within the scope of the departments we assist. 

    3. Ability to lift 2-5 pounds repetitively 

    4. Ability to communicate and fit in with different departments/teams’ cultures. 

    5. Embraces change and is never satisfied with the status quo.

    6. Is able to learn new concepts and processes quickly.

    7. High school diploma or equivalent

    Customer Relations: 

    • Greets all customers with fast and personalized service and develops rapport with customers by learning names, favorite drink, etc.

    • Answers and kindly explains questions about The Abbey product line as well as the café vision 


    Café

    • Maintains merchandise including: Whole Bean Coffee, Chocolates, Abbey Mugs and other related products

    • Responsible to clean: bar area, café seating and tables, guest restroom, kitchen area, in house dishes and other areas as assigned by café manager

    • Bakes and sells pastries for daily sales

    • Restocks supplies and updates stock count

    • Restock merchandise and whole bean offering

    • Follows training guidelines for drink preparation to maintain a consistent experience between customer visits 

    • Continuously seeks development in knowledge of coffee and tea offerings

    • Prepares seasonal drinks, syrups, and other bar used ingredients 


    Requirements and Qualifications: 

    • Must be able to maintain a positive and professional attitude throughout whole working shift 

    • Must be willing to provide top level customer service and hold a high level of kindness and patience with each and every customer

    • Strong verbal communication skills required

    • Be able to stand for up to 5 - 9 hour shift

    General Job Description

    The Campus Store Manager plays a vital role on our partners’ campuses.  They are Slingshot employees, but we want them to be integrated into the campus community. A manager needs to be able to communicate with and foster relationships with leadership on campus while also serving students and faculty.   We want managers to be the on-campus point of contact for anything related to course materials. Managers are advocates on campus and the link between the school and our company. A manager’s job is busy with books, merchandise, meetings, and student workers but there are ebbs and flows that follow the higher ed calendar. We have times where things are very busy and times that are quiet.  The stores have regular hours, but we do expect stores to open for special events like homecoming, graduation, some sporting events, and other on campus events. 


    We are seeking candidates who excel in a fast-paced setting and can handle a heavy workload during peak seasons. During busy periods, managers are expected to lead a team in fulfilling hundreds of orders while consistently meeting daily targets. Our managers need to be focused on customer service but also have grit and a great problem-solving ability. We are looking for candidates who can see how and why the processes work while also paying attention to the small details of the daily operation. Successful managers thrive on relationships and like to have fun amidst chaos. Finally, the ideal candidate is open to learning, can think quickly, delegate, and take ownership of the store.

    • Sort and receive incoming mail/packages for students and faculty

    • Complete daily pick up and delivery mail route to campus departments

    • Shelve student mail and packages

    • Manage outgoing mail by applying the proper postage

    • Assist customers shipping outgoing mail

    • Utilize department delivery locations and locators

    • Troubleshoot mail room packages and paper mail

    • Complete all monthly mail billing process



    Preferred Skills / Qualifications

    • Schedule flexibility during peak seasons 

    • Ability to lift 50 pounds, and carry heavy loads up and down stairways

    The Logistics team serves as a resource at Slingshot balancing a seasonal workflow that varies between receiving product, inventory control, order fulfillment, and distribution between multiple sites and customers.


    We place a high value upon productivity, safety, and efficiency, and we reward our staff accordingly.  All of our team members report to the Floor Manager for daily direction, as well as staff scheduling.


    Duties / Responsibilities:

    • Pulling product and fulfilling orders efficiently
    • Shipping and packaging orders effectively
    • Receiving and shelving product accurately
    • Other various tasks as assigned by the Floor Manager

    Skills / Qualifications Required:
